In September 1997, the Ashoka name burst onto the scene in Bearsden and Kirkintilloch, sending ripples of delight through the community. The avant-garde Aztec approach in the Ashoka Bearsden was just what the bhoona buffs were after. The ritzy interior is simplistic, yet highly stylish, and the Harlequin Suite to the rear of the restaurant makes a superb setting for that special occasion. Hidden away in the backstreets of this Glasgow suburb, the restaurant’s bar menu and Saag Tikki potato and spinach patties starter come highly recommended, as do the range of connoisseur’s choices. These include the Bombay Bakra, a karahi-style lamb cooked with ginger, black cumin and fresh spinach.
